new shoes

I love watching the farrier work on the horses. I always have enjoyed holding the horses for the farriers and watching them work. And I have for quite awhile wanted to shoot some pictures of the horses getting shod. I'm sure Travis, our farrier, thinks I'm quite the nut job. (and I am so I guess its ok.)

It was all doom and gloom outside so I had very little light to work with; Some of these are grainier than others, but the grit really lends its self well to the Black and White conversion and the subject matter.

The Wells Fargo Wagon is a coming

They hitched up in the church parking lot, We hung around and visited with one of the geldings on the team, and one of the grooms, then we hung around for longer and shot a few pictures while they got dresses for work.

windows to the soul

There is little else in this world that is the same as the deep dark liquid eye of a horse. Window to the soul indeed, this mare has a deep calm motherly soul, can you see it?

window to the soul

All are just a little different from each other; they are in order of how they appeal to me. I think.

Still....

.... playing catch-up. And Blogger is not co-operating. Pictures are not loading well. It's making it tough to stick with the catching up...

I was still playing with the tree when I took these. I can't decide which one I like the best. I think its this first one.

isn't she lovely...

I have better shots of this nag. but this one is how I see her everyday, waiting for me at the fence to bring out the food. Not glamorous or striking or anything. Not to mention she is badly in need of me to pull the burs off of her. Nice forelock, she reminds me of Lucy Ricardo when her forelock is all curled up with cockleburs. But I like this time of year because the horses are waiting on pins and needles to get fed, watered , or thrown hay. And they are so much happier to see me once it gets cold. It makes it worth it to haul my butt out in the freezing cold to feed and check on them.

the return.

Paco and Ginger, who belong to my neighbor, have moved back onto our place for the winter. This is Ginger, or rather her eye, she has a sweet kind motherly eye. And try as I might I tried to get a picture without that turquoise trailer behind her.. and you know what? Its the one I like the best. Go figure.
